What’s my next step?

The more I look around, the less I see students going away to study. Some are my friends, and others are friends of my friends or just people I know. What is wrong with this story?
Just yesterday I met up with an old classmate of mines I haven’t seen since high school. I was really glad to see her. She asked if I’m still living on the Island, and I told her no; I am away studying in Curacao. And she asked how is school and life going up there. I said pretty great.
Then I asked her where is she studying. And she told me she never went away and study. She started working for awhile, then stayed home for a few months, and now she has another Job. Then I ask her is that all? Don’t you have other plans in life? She said “I don’t know“.
I have a lot of friends who are up to this day still working and never continued their schooling. When I would ask why, they either said the money is great, or their saving up enough money so that they can go away and study. Some do stick to their word and stop after they made a certain amount, and others just get to caught up in the money life.
Who is to blame for this? Should we blame the teachers for not bringing up the subject about going away to study enough? Should we blame the parents for not pushing their kids, and letting them know that education comes first? Or should we blame the children for not asking them self: What’s my next step? For not looking into their future, and really ask them self, Is this what I really want?
My next step wasn’t always to go away and study. I didn’t even had a clue what I wanted. I had no dreams, and that was because after failing twice in the same class I thought that was it and just took going away out of my mind. I started to create other plans that was far away from school. I didn’t even believe I would of made it the third time, so with that out of mind, so was the “furthering my studies” part.
But then I changed around my way of thinking and believing in myself. Create a future for myself, dreams that I would like to achieve. And then is when I decided that my next step for when I made it, was too go and further my studies.
For those of you that are still in High School, what is your next step after that? What would be the reason for your decision? Jobs will always be there, and so will the money. Lets leave the hard working Jobs for the parents. Our Job is to go to school and get that Diploma! “Our yearly salary is our report card, where we come closer to that big promotion: Our diploma”. Lets do the things that goes with our age group…SCHOOL. “Education is richer then anything out there in the world right now”.
So don’t let money get in the way of your education, especially at such a young age. It’s never too late, quit that Job and go back to school. You need your education.

i agree with you but ain’t always parents got the money for there kids to go away and it ain’t all kids can handle it
