Quiting while you’re ahead…

A few days ago I was watching a very interesting movie called “American Gangster”. For those of who you watched it already, you might agree with me, when I say that it’s a very life learning movie.
And for those of who didn’t see it as yet, I advice you to buy the dvd, or download it. There are a lot of things you will come to realize after watching this movie, but I won’t give the movie away. I will just take out one quote that I like and would like to share with my readers.
Quiting while you’re ahead, is not the same as quiting…
What is meant by that, is that you have to know when it’s enough. Some people think that being successful means having it all until there is nothing left to take. Success is really about, reaching to a limit that makes you happy and not greedy.
This you will mostly see with money wise. I will give you an example.
Casino gamblers: I do not gamble, nor do I go to the casino. There is so much other things I do with my money. The best thing to do with money that you have no use with, is to open an account at the bank and start saving. But I do different, if I see something that I like to have, I save my money until I have the money to buy it.
Anyways back to my example; you just got paid today from your summer job and decided to give yourself a little treat to the casino. You’re losing big time, but you only decide to play half of your money. The game keeps getting interesting and by time you know it you’re playing your last dollar from your entire pay check!
You either walk away, and take a bus home with that dollar, or you try your luck just one more time. :s ahh what the heck, you go for it….and damnnnnnnnn….you just won $500. The half of what your paycheck was. You can either walk away with the money, but you choose to go for more. Because we don’t like to settle for less…or do we?
Anyways you play and play and play….you’re on a role…but not this time around, you loose it all! Because you didn’t know when to quit while you were ahead.
I hope that you understood the difference between quitting while your ahead, and actually quiting…if not I would be glad to explain it too you…

well.. what you said made alot of sence….good advice to
For me, quitting while I am ahead meant following my own path (starting a business) rather than following everybody else’s path. If I had kept on with my job, I would have gone down a path of depression and illness instead of freedom and health. I’m glad I quit while I was ahead because I’m even farther ahead now.
